The cambelt, or timing belt keeps the camshafts in the engine running smoothly in time together. If left to wear beyond the recommended mileage, it can snap or slip, often without any warning, and leave a large bill in its wake.
Your cambelt will need changing every 60,000–90,000 miles or so, according to the manufacturers handbook which you should have with your car.
